Compaq Presario CQ40 Review

Compaq Presario CQ40

This is a review of HP’s home-office laptops, the Compaq Presario CQ40  series, specifically the 313TU variant. I’m no expert tech guy, but I am techy and I like gadgets, and this one for me brings the best value for your money. Here are the specifications:

  • Intel Centrino Dual Core 1.6 GHz
  • 1GB of RAM (upgradable)
  • 160 GB SATA HDD
  • DVD Super Multi Drive with LightScribe
  • 14″ Screen with built-in Webcam
  • Shared Video
  • Weight: 2.4 Kg
  • Wireless LAN, Standard LAN, Modem, 3 USB Ports, DVI out, HDMI out
  • Windows Vista Starter

Pros: It is a very capable laptop if you need to do some basic stuff like web surfing of doing MS Office applications. The video is crisp, but don’t expect it to be a gaming laptop. It has a glossy piano finish which looks very elegant. It also has a button beside the power button for turning the WiFi on and off. I also like the brightness of the screenl perfect when you are doing midnight surfing.

Cons: The battery life is very short: lasts up to 3 hours only. The images on the built-in webcam is quite dark if you are not in a brightly-lit room. And I really don’t like the fact that it is only made for Vista: it has Vista Starter in it, and I had to downgrade to XP which was really a pain because they do not support XP drivers for it so I had to search each driver for every component on the Compaq Presario CQ40 which are XP compatible.

All in all, it is a really great buy. Priced at 24,000Php at Accent Micro. Very versatile and fits well with our needs.
