I was hooked up with Last.fm before when it was still a free mp3 music streaming site since I needed some get-up music to give a little nudge on that late night graveyard web designing schedule. But then they started to charge monthly fees and that is totally a killer to my free music lifestyle.

Then came GrooveShark.com, and I think its absolutely the best music streaming site ever! Why?

First, its got a Flash-based interface so you got some nice but user-friendly controls, and the site design is really cool too (I like the orange-black combination). You can play the most popular songs on one click, or search for a song or an artist and build your playlist from scratch. Also, you can even upload you own mp3s to complete your playlist. And best of all: its totally FREE (as in free music streaming! But at least for now, it is).

If you’re a sucker for free music, do check it out! Grooveshark.com

It actually took me quite a while to remember the email and password I used for my Friendster profile. After thirty minutes, I was successfully logged in. Here is the new profile page of Friendster:

It is clear that they are aiming at a Facebook-ey feel. Its not really bad actually. I like color green – feels more breezy. I haven’t roamed around my Friendster friends list yet, its been like 2 years or so, but my wife was checking my account once in a while.

So, what do you think? I think it still has its share of market in the vast internet. I had my Friendster profile since I was highschool, and I think Friendster’s new look is not bad. After all, its where all my social networking life started. :)

What would ever happen to your online accounts now? Will your accounts be automatically deleted, or will your Facebook account automatically send an update that “Mr. Online Guy has just died”. Luckily, people from MakeUseOf were actually thinking about it and made a research which concludes:

If you die, your accounts will most likely stay active unless the site automatically deletes the account due to inactivity, or your family has requested the account to be closed. Most sites allow access to your personal data by your next of kin, but to gain this right, they will need to mail proof to the website. Even though you may have died, if you use one password for all these sites, your family members might be able to use that password, or even guess your secret question. But then again, when you die, would you even care what people find in your email inbox or social networking sites?

If you are trying to access a deceased person’s email, try resetting their email, look to see if they have stored the password in a file, or see if they have written it down on paper.

There is a free service available on the internet for Twitter lovers out there who wants to follow back their followers, or unfollow those who do not follow them back easily without having to go to the individual pages of your tweeps. Its called Tweepular!

With Tweepular, you can see your “Tweepularistics”. It allows you to:

see who you are following and are following you back;

see those whom you follow and are not following you back; and

see those who follow you whom you are not following back!

(a coming feature is the Recent Unfollowers thingy…)

It also has options for you to Bulk Follow/Unfollow your Tweeps in a snap! Imagine unfollowing 1,432 people manually by visiting each of their pages and clicking the Unfollow button. This is great for increasing your followers based on this tip from Macuha.

It also has a very colorful interface: more like a mixed candy and bubblegum.

Here’s the link, enjoy: Tweepular.

If you need an easy and FREE way to schedule repeating tweets, all you have to do is to use FutureTweets.com! Its service that lets you schedule predefined tweets at any time of the day. Let me talk more about it…

You can use your OpenID to login, so you save the hassle of the registration process. Or you can also go to the usual sign up thing. Then, you enter your Twitter details and you can now start to schedule your Twitter tweets daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or just schedule it on a specific date.

This can be useful for regularly promoting your blog, a product, or to remind your followers of any event you’re hosting. I use it to remind myself when to pay the bills, lol!

I have compiled here some of my favorite Firefox extensions or add-ons so you guys can also try them out. I gave out some general info about them so you can get an overview of what they are all about. Some can be useful for bloggers, some are for web developers, some are just for casual surfers so I made sure there’s something for everybody.

ColorZilla – Advanced eyedropper, color picker, page zoomer and other colorful goodies. This is pretty useful for web designers. You can get the color code on areas of the webpage, much like the Photoshop eyedropper.

DownThemAll! – The mass downloader for Firefox. Very handy if you download lots of stuff from the Internet. Makes downloading faster and much more organized. A lot of options available for customizing your downloads.

Firebug – Web development evolved. I think the most comprehensive debugging tool for web developers. Analyze the internal code of a page (html, css, javascript, dom) and more useful developer tools.

FireFTP – FTP client for Mozilla Firefox. I personally use this. It has replaced my default FTP client.

Fission – Places the progress bar in the address bar, like Safari style.

FoxClocks – Displays local times around the world in the status/toolbar. Supports virtually all timezones.

FoxyProxy – Premiere proxy manager for Firefox. If you are a “stealthy” surfer and you usually change the proxies by going to the Options menu, this is a great add-on.

MeasureIt – Draw out a ruler to get the pixel width and height of any elements on a webpage.

PDF download – Allows you to choose what to do with a PDF file: download it, view it with an external viewer, or view it as HTML

RankChecker – Track where your site ranks in Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft Live Search using the free Firefox Rank Checker. From SeoBook.com

SiteLauncher – Opens websites using special keyboard shortcuts. This is specially useful if you want to remove the bookmarks toolbar to save screen real estate, but still want easy access to bookmarks. Pressing ctrl+space opens a pop-up of your set bookmarks.

StumbleUpon Toolbar – StumbleUpon discovers web sites based on your interests, learns what you like and brings you more. Clicking the StumbleIt! button is quite addicting!

Tab Mix Plus – Tab browsing with an added boost. If you are accustomed to using the ctrl+tab shortcut when changing tabs on other Windows applications, this will help you get the same effect on Firefox.

TinyMenu – Replaces the standard menu with a tiny menu popup.

Yet Another Smooth Scolling – Replaces scroll behavior with both mouse wheel and cursor key into fully customizable natural smooth one. This imitates the scrolling behavior of the Opera browser.

Personas – Personas are lightweight, easy to install and easy to change skins for your Firefox web browser. This one is really a must-try!

Video DownloadHelper – The easy way to download and convert Web videos from hundreds of YouTube-like sites. This works also for audio and picture galleries.

Cooliris – Full-Screen, 3D — Cooliris is simply the fastest and most stunning way to browse photos and videos from the Web or your desktop. Effortlessly scroll a “3D Wall” of your content from Facebook, Google Images, YouTube, Flickr, and hundreds more. You’ll be stunned with the 3d interface of this image gallery add-on.

GooglePreview – Inserts preview images (thumbnails) and popularity ranks of web sites into the Google and Yahoo search results pages. Very helpful when you do a lot of Googling!

FoxTab – FoxTab is a 3D tabbed browsing extension. With 5 attractive layouts to choose from, fliiping between opened tabs becomes easy and enjoyable than ever. Use the grouping and filtering features, and start experiencing tabbed-browsing in a whole new way.
