My Blog Is Now Penalized By Google

It was really a big mistake when I migrated all my posts from my Mikeyhacky Blogspot blog here to my self-hosted WP blog. I wasn’t aware that Google would spank me with the duplicated content from my old blog to this new one. Now I did some redirection from Blogger to WordPress from the instructions here. But my problem is that I am now penalized by the Big G. Some of my pages are not indexed, I don’t have a pagerank… How do I lift that penalty? I don’t know. Hopefully in a few months my blog can be re-indexed.

If you know something that I can do to solve this problem, PLEASE please let me know. :)

Hi Mike, sorry to hear bout what happened. I was trying to access the link you provided where you got the redirection instructions but I couldn’t access it. Did the instructions include or say anything about setting your WP blog privacy settings to block search engines? If not, you should have done that first before importing your data from Blogger to WordPress. Then when you’re done with the whole migration, you can then change the privacy settings on WP and allow search engines, then go to your Blogger dashboard and block search engines so that you won’t get penalized for duplicate content.

My friend Gem wrote a two-part series on HowTo: Move from Blogger to WordPress on my blog. If only you read that before you migrated your blog, you would’ve avoided getting penalized.

For now, what you can do is to file a reinclusion request on Google Webmaster Tools.

Hope that helps and that you get your blog posts indexed again. :)

Thanks Jaypee for your reply, I have already blocked robots to access my Blogspot blog. Also big thanks for the highlighter plugin I was looking for, thanks for your response. I will use it soon.

I’ve done a similar mistake, when I migrated from Blogger to WordPress, I used WordPress.com to export my blog posts in Blogger. Little did I know that my posts in wordpress.com is also visible and searchable by search engines. Kaya pala after 6 months of migrating in my own domain, PR0 pa rin. Pero nung dinelete ko na yung WordPress.com, yung next G update, PR 3 na agad.

Hope yours will turn out well.
